The company uses an alternative treatment against the red palm weevil beetle without pollutants
Althenia, the company specialized in environmental services of the Sando group, applies an alternative treatment on plant health in parks and gardens to combat pests called endotherapy. It is a method that avoids sprays and dispersions of chemicals, without polluting the environment, soil and water.
Endotherapy is completely harmless to the health of citizens, birds and other animals and can be used at any time of the day. It also has the advantage to be able to focus the treatment, by avoiding indiscriminate spraying.
This system consists in the trunk injection of a nutritious phytosanitary substance that is distributed throughout the vascular system of the plant. The procedure is done with a specific machine, called ArboProf, which has the capacity to perform the endotherapy quickly and safely.
Althenia applies this treatment in different locations, such as in the town of Leganes. Althenia works for the City Council of Leganes in the maintenance of its parks, fighting with great efficiency the plagues that their trees suffer.
The company has used this treatment in pine trees against the processionary; in elms against the leaf beetle; in bananas and catalpas for mealybugs and aphids as pest control; this has been carried out in several neighbourhoods of the town for control and elimination of the caterpillars of palm trees, among others.
Special attention should be given to the use of this method against the red palm weevil beetle that has devastated thousands of palm trees in recent years and that Althenia has employed in other areas of the country. It is important that once the plague is detected to act and apply shock treatments allowing to stop the progression or at least minimize the damage.
The biggest advantages are:
• The speed of action: the time it takes the tree to absorb any of these injections ranges between 30 seconds to 10 minutes.
• Persistence: a single application is sufficient in many cases to correct the plague attack.
• Cleanliness because it avoids sprayings.
• Effectiveness: by injecting the active ingredient directly in the sap of the tree ensuring the even distribution of the product and the right amount to get a positive and immediate reaction.
Althenia has proven the effectiveness of this method, even when treatments have been carried out by need and not in a recommended season.
