Sando Materiales is the Grupo Sando company specialising in the exploitation, processing, supply and transport of construction materials.. With 50 years of experience, it produces materials for the sector with the highest quality and sustainability standards.
In developing its activities, the company guarantees the availability, competitiveness, and delivery times, as well as the use of top-quality raw materials that comply with all international standards and environmental regulations. To this end, it has homologations to be able to carry out the marking of its material with the European Community (CE) and the Officially Recognised Distinctive (DOR) in different operations, such as in the Villa Rosa Concrete Plant (Malaga).
Sando’s main service guideline is the pursuit of maximum quality, which is why the Quality Systems implemented in all its companies are geared towards compliance with the requirements of the ISO-9001:2015 standard and the Construction Products Regulation, which determines the need to certify the conformity of the majority of Sando’s materials production.
Sando has several quarries throughout Spain:
- La Ventilla (Ronda), a limestone plant, has a fixed crushing and classification plant capable of producing up to 1,000 tonnes/hour, producing 423,000 tonnes of limestone aggregates per year. The Ronda Concrete Plant is also located on the same site, with a capacity of 80 m3/hour, and an asphalt agglomerate plant has a 160 tonnes/hour capacity.
- El Sillero (Malaga), also limestone, is equipped with two mobile crushing and screening plants with a production capacity of up to 320 tn/hour and a current extraction volume of 141,000 Tn/year.
- La Cabaña (Seville), a siliceous aggregate gravel pit with an aggregate treatment, washing and classification plant, with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes/h and a 500 m3/h crushing and classification plant. Currently, 1 million tonnes of natural gravel are being processed yearly. Two concrete plants of 80 m3/h each and an asphalt agglomerate plant of 200 tn/h are in the same location.
Innovation and circular economy in materials management
Environmental restoration and recycling are fundamental parts of Sando Materiales’ activities. To minimise the environmental impact of the extraction operations, the company carries out activities to restore the degraded soil to its fertile condition. . One example is the gravel pit of La Cabaña, where once the existing material has been exploited, the topsoil is filled in and restored, levelled using laser-equipped equipment. The land is returned to its original state and ready to continue with agricultural production.
In line with its commitment to innovation and the integration of the circular economy, the company uses technology to exploit and treat aggregates.
Sando Materiales has a pioneering aggregate washing plant in Spain capable of processing up to 1,000 tonnes/hour. . Through the techniques introduced to improve water efficiency, Sando Materiales manages to reuse 80% of the water used in aggregate washing, thus contributing to SDG 6: Ensure water availability and sustainable water management.
In the field of innovation, it is worth highlighting the project MAPS: Modernisation and Adaptation of a Sustainable Agglomerates Plant carried out at the La Cabaña production centre in Seville. A project developed with a European subsidy aimed at modernising and adapting the asphalt mix plant, improving the pavements’ sustainability, and reducing atmospheric emissions and energy consumption through lower manufacturing temperatures. Using recycled pavement in the manufacturing process of asphalt mixes as part of the raw material will allow the production of some 50,000 tonnes of sustainable asphalt mixes per year.
