Althenia Sando has completed the project’s second phase for the morphological restoration and naturalisation of the Adra River. The Regional Minister, Carmen Crespo, inaugurated this 7.4-kilometre-long project of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Andalusian Regional Government.
As communicated by the Junta de Andalucía, this project will protect the adjoining municipalities of Adra and Berja from possible flooding and regenerate the river Adra. Furthermore, a strong commitment has been made to local flora, eliminating invasive flora with the removal of 44.6 million units of reeds and more than 27,800 feet of other invasive species.
Althenia Sando has planted 31,520 plants of 22 indigenous species and transplanted 700 poplars, contributing to the natural fixation of carbon dioxide. In general terms, work has been carried out on 59.5 hectares of the river in the upper area of Berja.
The morphological restoration and naturalisation of the Adra River have also included the rehabilitation of the pre-existing ditches and irrigation channels. In addition, 1,113 tonnes of agricultural Waste and rubbish have been disposed of.
