Althenia Sando has finished the environmental works that have enabled the creation of a new green path in the Madrid municipality of Alcobendas. The work carried out on the Vega stream involves a sustainable intervention for the city of 1,370 metres between the streets of La Granja and Avenida de la Industria.
This project involved rehabilitating an area of 48,500 square metres. As the mayor of Alcobendas, Rocío García Alcántara pointed out during the inauguration, it was possible to configure the axis of the stream and its surroundings as a green space for leisure and landscape. To this end, Althenia Sando has carried out the environmental recovery of the riverbed and its banks, the improvement and extension of the wooded areas, and the elimination of elements of degradation, such as dumps and rubbish dumps or cut accesses.
This action, which protects the area’s fluvial ecosystem, is complemented by the planting of new bushes and trees. Althenia Sando has treated the existing vegetation by clearing some areas of difficult traffic or pruning and removing specimens in poor condition or directly affecting the infrastructure.
Krainer wall
A special feature is Althenia Sando’s construction of a “living wall” of the Krainer type. This infrastructure consists of a framework of logs and earth that allows the establishment of vegetation and is a direct substitute for the breakwater. It has been in areas with strong incisions and lateral erosion of the ordinary riverbed.
Pedestrian path
This project, financed by the Community of Madrid, includes the installation of new street furniture (benches, bollards and litter bins) and the pre-installation of street lighting to complement the pedestrian path, which will make it easier to walk in the dark hours.
With this action, Althenia Sando, a company specialising in environmental services and actions, reinforces its commitment to the natural environment, society, and, ultimately, the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
