Althenia Sando has started a new public awareness campaign with the Department of Environment of the Vélez-Málaga Town Council: “In your house, you would clean it up… Our streets are your house”. An awareness and civic initiative aimed at pet owners in the municipality to remind them of the importance of keeping their pets’ Waste off the streets.
Althenia Sando participates in this campaign as the current company managing the cleaning and urban waste collection service in Vélez-Málaga. A position in which he sees how these actions can be highly effective in the performance of his work, while contributing to his purpose: to promote healthy, sanitised, and sustainable spaces.
The main objective of this campaign is to encourage pet owners and citizens to take responsibility for the care of the public spaces in which they live. An initiative to disseminate the ordinance on public cleanliness and municipal management of urban waste, which establishes in article 28 that “owners or keepers of animals must immediately remove and collect the excrement they do on the pavement, and must also clean the area they have soiled”, the non-compliance of which carries certain penalties.
At the campaign presentation, our colleague Javier Ruiz Arjona, head of the Althenia Service in Vélez-Málaga, thanked the council and town hall for their collaboration. He explained the purpose of this call for citizen responsibility: “We are looking for the cooperation of all citizens to ensure that the municipality is in the best possible condition.”
As a company specialising in environmental solutions, Althenia Sando provides various services to public and private organisations, including cleaning and waste management. The experience accumulated in the execution of actions on public Roads has allowed it to verify the positive impact this type of campaign has on the behaviour of citizens.
Therefore, in line with Sando’s social responsibility strategy, Althenia launches this type of environmental awareness campaign for the public. Specifically with the Town Council of Vélez-Málaga, several have been carried out in recent years. It highlights the one developed in 2021 with the same purpose under the slogan: “A big prize for a small gesture”.
