Alcobendas Town Council has awarded Althenia Sando the contract for the restoration of the Arroyo de la Vega banks. This action aims to protect the Arroyo de la Vega’s river ecosystem and increase the citizens’ social link with this environment. This service is part of the City Council’s strategy for recovering and improving ecological and environmental interest areas to enhance their value as part of the municipality’s natural heritage.
The main actions to be carried out are restoration and cleaning of the riverbed and banks, improving ecosystems, and working to condition the space for social use, such as developing pedestrian paths and installing street lighting and furniture.
In restoring the riverbed and improving the ecosystem, the main activity will be restoring the previous level to reduce the risk of flooding in the river environment. To this end, Althenia Sando will backfill with selected material for compacting, and plantings will be made to help restore the ecological and landscape functions of the stream.
On the other hand, Althenia Sando will treat the existing vegetation in the shrub and tree stratum to clear the undergrowth that hinders water circulation and pedestrian connectivity. Areas currently used as car parks will be reclaimed by mulching the ground, raking it and installing tree plantations.
As part of the social development of the area, Althenia Sando will create paths along the banks of the stream to facilitate longitudinal pedestrian connectivity in four sections. It will also install general furniture, such as wooden benches or litter bins; protection systems, such as fixed bollards combined with removable bollards; and street lighting along the right bank of the stream.
