As a company specialized in environmental actions, Althenia Sando develops projects and innovative solutions in the neutralization and capture of CO2. We recognize that simply reducing emissions is not enough; and we must capture the excess Greenhouse Gases (GHG) we already have in the atmosphere to mitigate the effects of climate change. Undoubtedly, the main source of CO2 absorption on the planet are natural sinks, forests, urban trees, soils and oceans. We are specialists in the first three and are committed to data models that ensure the care, microbiodiversity and proper use of water resources. We complement our value proposition with technological innovation. We consider important the solutions oriented to industrial CO2 capture, with techniques such as DAC (Direct Air Capture), Carbon Mineralization, BECCS (Bioenergy), Pyrolysis (Thermal Process), CCUS (Capture, Use and Storage of CO2), and development of circular economy such as biogas energy generation from biomass, and development of new asphalt and cement products based on captured CO2.

Trees as carbon sinks

Althenia Sando offers tree and forest management solutions, ranging from the reforestation of degraded areas, overexploited or affected by fires, to the creation of forest mass by planting trees in soils previously devoid of forest, using the appropriate species in each ecosystem. These forests and woodlands, together with the soil and the oceans, act as natural carbon sinks by absorbing atmospheric CO2. According to data from the World Economic Forum, a single tree is capable of absorbing around one ton of CO2 over its lifetime, and the average European emits between five and seven tons of CO2 per year, highlighting the magnitude of our impact. Therefore, at the citizen level, five to seven trees should be planted each year to offset each other’s emissions. Through our forest management and urban tree planting solutions, Althenia Sando actively drives decarbonization, thus contributing to mitigating the effects of climate change. We don’t just plant trees; we create effective carbon sinks. In addition, each hectare of forest we transform absorbs approximately 100 tons of CO 2 reinforcing our dedication to environmental sustainability and the fight against the global ‘climate emergency’.”

Tree stands for the production of forest biomass

Althenia Sando plays an integral role in the installation of tree stands with the objective of taking advantage of the Waste generated to obtain biomass, a renewable energy source after a specialized treatment process. This energy transformation is materialized from various resources, such as forest residues, by-products resulting from the transformation of wood, the organic fraction of urban or industrial waste, as well as the organic portion present in sewage or industrial sludge. The diversification of these sources ensures a solid base for biomass generation, strengthening Althenia Sando’s commitment to sustainability. Althenia Sando’s specialized service in the planting of tree stands for the production of forest biomass not only guarantees the constant availability of this resource, but also contributes significantly to soil fixation, prevents soil erosion, provides nutrients and generates microbiodiversity, while helping to consolidate essential materials for future renewable energy applications. Biogas energy generation from biomass

The latter process involves the conversion of gases generated during the decomposition of organic materials into a valuable source of energy.
