The Cabildo Insular de Tenerife has awarded Conacon Sando and Sando Construcción two contracts for conservation and road services as part of the comprehensive maintenance of the island’s road network. The main purpose of both contracts is to carry out the actions and operations of road maintenance, ordinary maintenance, incident management and communications, and support in the use and defence of Roads and protection zones. Both contracts include 24-hour, 365-day surveillance of the roads to ensure rapid response in the event of accidents or severe weather warnings.
Conacon Sando will be responsible for lot 4 in the southern sector, which covers 166.03 km of roads, including 92 km of motorways, 43.5 km of conventional roads, and 30 km of interchanges and service roads. The most relevant particularity within the sector is the high traffic intensity, reaching an Average Daily Traffic (ADT) of 100,000 vehicles on one section of the motorway.
For its part, Sando Construcción will oversee lot 3 of the western sector, which includes the conservation and maintenance of 177.2 km of roads, of which 37 km are dual carriageways, 105.5 km of conventional roads, and 34.7 km of interchanges and service roads. This sector also has a high level of DMA, with some of the main roads in the tourist area in the south of the island. In addition, it includes areas with unstable slopes that cause occasional landslides of material onto the tracks, making appropriate treatment necessary to always ensure the safety of drivers.
Excellence in road maintenance and upkeep
In both interventions, technical work will be carried out, such as the maintenance of structures, Tunnels, viaducts, drainage, slopes, Signalling and beaconing elements, as well as the cleaning of the tracks and their banks. All actions will also include road maintenance work in the sector, dealing with accidents and incidents in the shortest possible time, inventory work and real-time updates.
With this project, Conacon Sando and Sando Construcción offer the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife their extensive experience and specialisation in sustainable road maintenance. These actions aim to provide Tenerife with safer roads and more fluid traffic, favouring the connectivity and cohesion of the territory. To this end, both companies have their own specialised staff, as well as newly acquired vehicles, including several zero-emission units, in line with the commitment to reduce the carbon footprint and thus contribute to the continuous improvement of the environment.
