Conacon Sando is installing telecommunications infrastructure based on fibre optics on the TF-12 road for the Tenerife inter-island council. This action, promoted by the Area of Roads, Mobility, Innovation and Culture of the inter-island council, aims to incorporate into this network the different settlements in the Anaga area, a tourist enclave of interest.
The route of the pipeline runs along the TF-12 island road, between KP 8+950 and 28+800, a section located between the towns of San Andrés (municipal district of Santa Cruz de Tenerife) and Las Mercedes (municipal district of San Cristóbal de La Laguna). As the section runs through the Anaga Rural Park, an area specially protected as a biosphere reserve, executing the works requires high specialisation to ensure environmental protection and a low impact on the environment’s biodiversity
The previous work included Georadar with a detection depth of 1,000 millimetres, which allowed the correct route and depth for the new trench. Other works include: the excavation of a 50×10 cm mini-ditch with three trenching machines with cutting discs (with or without automatic suction, depending on the model), the laying of the duct (ductwork) using a truck crane with a reel carrier anchored to the duct box; concreting to guarantee the mechanical stability of the duct against the stresses of the traffic load; laying of fibre optic telecommunication boxes; installation of the fibre micro-cable inside the micro-ducts by blowing; fusion of fibres in all fusion boxes; as well as reflectometry measurements to detect possible defects and measure splices made.
The Tenerife inter-island council has been working to deploy fibre optics for telecommunications since 2011. The Tenerife inter-island council has been working to deploy fibre optics for telecommunications since 2011. The first phases of the Island Telecommunications Ring formed a fibre optic backbone network with a ring structure, which made it possible to offer a fluid and efficient high-speed data connection to the leading centres in successive phases. Conacon Sando participated in the third phase of this Island Ring by installing 128 kilometres of fibre optic cable to connect the main perimeter ring, which ran along the TF-1 and TF-5, with all the island’s municipalities.
