The La Gomera Inter-Island Council has approved the renewal of the road maintenance and conservation service provided by Conacon Sando on the island. As announced by the Council itself, this extension will allow the service to continue until 2026 with an investment of 4.4 million euros.
Conacon Sando will continue its road maintenance and conservation work on the 17 Roads owned by the island, which make up a 250-kilometre network. In addition, it will extend existing cooperation in the rest of the island to provide a safe and clean road network.
Along with the contract extension, the Council has renewed the package of complementary services, such as the cleaning of bus shelters, gazebos, and gardens.
24-hour road maintenance
Conacon Sando’s road maintenance and conservation service on the island extends 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Likewise, the specialised company also participates in the assistance and support of traffic accidents that occur on these island roads.
Intensive summer performance
During the summer months, Conacon Sando has developed a special operation to intensify conservation and maintenance tasks due to the significant increase in vehicles travelling on the island.
During these months, vertical signs have been placed at different points of the island’s road network, slopes have been stabilised, walls have been built, and metal-wooden barriers have been installed. Likewise, work has been carried out on ditches, roadside verges and walls, and clearing and cleaning has been carried out using manual and mechanical means.
Lastly, as part of the road maintenance and conservation service, Conacon Sando has conditioned bus stops and viewpoints throughout the island by disinfecting and cleaning walls, floors and street furniture.
