A new edition of the acclaimed Malaga International Jazz Festival is being prepared for November. The Sando Fundación is once again backing this annual event, which brings together music and culture with a vocation for dissemination, organised by the City Council.
The line-up for this 36th edition includes seven concerts of great richness and diversity that will take place in the central Cervantes Theatre from 3 to 9 November. It includes two legendary figures of vocal jazz from two different generations, Dianne Reeves and Sheila Jordan, Dave Holland fronting the supergroup Aziza and four top instrumentalists, trumpeters Avishai Cohen and Paolo Fresu, saxophonist Kenny Garrett and pianist Hiromi.
The festival will pay homage to David Bowie, Jack Kerouac and the Beat Generation, as well as exploring new trends and the African roots of improvised music. Tickets for the seven dates can already be purchased at the Teatro Cervantes box office and online through Uniticket.
In this edition of the International Jazz Festival the open-air concerts of the Málagajazz project will continue. In collaboration with the MAHOS and AEHCOS associations, the shows will be organised to make this event a cycle open to the city.
The Japanese pianist and composer Hiromi Uehara will receive this year’s Málagajazz Award. This award was created to recognise the mastery of her instrument and on this occasion highlights an artist who is extremely skilful at the keyboard and musical writing.
With this competition, the Sando Fundación completes its altruistic commitment to culture, music and international talent for yet another year.
