The company excavated 67.2 metres in one day in La Cabrera tunnel along the Siete Aguas-Buñol section
The Sando Group team executing the Siete Aguas-Buñol section of the Madrid-Valencia line as part of a TBA, awarded by ADIF, has beaten the international world record in daily advancing with a tunnelling machine in just one day. The manufacturer of the machine, Herrenknecht AG, congratulated the TBA executing the section for its magnificent work.
The execution of La Cabrera Tunnels, each with a length of 7.2 km, consists of perforating two parallel circular tunnels with a nominal excavation diameter of 9.72 m. The Sando team managed to beat the record of 65.6 metres achieved by the same TBA using the S-373 Unax tunnelling machine, by excavating 67.2 metres in one day. This achievement is due to the improvements made during the test period by the team directing the tunnelling machine and Sando’s experience in this type of infrastructure, and is proof of Sando’s excellent technical capacity and avant-garde technology. The technical team responsible for directing the work and ADIF have cooperated with each other in achieving this important international milestone.
The Siete Aguas-Buñol section is comprised of 11.2 kilometres in length and has different tunnels and viaducts along its course, but La Cabrera is the most complicated and important tunnel of all those being executed.
Sando is present in the main Railway infrastructures of Spain, including different sections of the AVE line, for instance the Madrid-Segovia-Valladolid, Atlantic Line, Madrid-Valencia, Bobadilla-Granada or Córdoba-Málaga lines. It is also involved in other important projects such as the new terminal for Málaga airport and the second runway, the desalination plant in Campo de Dalías, Almería; different sections along the Levante or Castilla dual carriageways or El Cañaveral Residential Complex in Madrid, the largest in Spain.
The Sando Group is currently expanding throughout Spain and Europe, and is one of the top ten construction firms in the country. In 2006 its turnover amounted to 759.5 million euros and forecasts for 2007 indicate a new increase in turnover, reaching some 1,000 million euros.
