This weekend in Majorca, the Princess Sophia Trophy was won by the sportswoman from Tenerife
The Sando Fundación has been sponsoring Alicia Cebrián Martínez de Lagos, the yachtswoman from Tenerife, in her Olympic bid. The sportswoman will attempt to classify in the Laser Radial category in order to compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games.
This initiative came about as a result of Sando Fundación’s commitment to the company to collaborate in developing activities which can strengthen cultural and sporting values, especially in this case, where the yachtswoman, Alicia Cebrián, is attempting to represent her country at the Olympics.
The sportswoman from Tenerife started her bid towards classifying for the London games well, winning the latest national competitions in which she had taken part. At the end of March she took the Spanish Cup in the Radial Laser class in Tarragona after winning the top category, and this weekend she was awarded the Princess Sophia Trophy in Majorca.
To achieve her Olympic place she still has to prove herself in key competitions over the next few months, such as the French Olympic Week in France, the Expert Olympic Garda in Italy, the World Championships in Germany and the Gold Sailor in the United Kingdom.
This week, both Alicia Cebrián as well as the Sando Fundación, have received the backing of the Santa Cruz Mayor in Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, and the Sports, Youth and Education Councillor, Mónica Molina, who have lent their support to this initiative.
The foundation hopes that the yachtswoman, Alicia Cebrián, will be able to take part in the 2012 Olympic Games and champion the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, spirit and team work.
The Sando Fundación is a non-profit organization which promotes the policy of Corporate Social Responsibility throughout the group of companies which comprise Sando.
