Sando and Acciona start the works on the new Ikos Andalusia

The action plan, established by both companies, includes an investment of more than 55 million euros provided by the hotel group and will be completed in around 15 months’ time.
ACCIONA Construcción and SANDO joins Ikos Resorts in the hotel group’s first project in Spain. As a result of the agreement, the TBA led by ACCIONA Construcción and also integrated by SANDO will carry out the complete refurbishment of the resort, located in the Marbella-Estepona area, which will become Ikos Andalusia, a resort designed to turn into the international reference of the luxury all-inclusive concept.

The agreement reached between both companies has the objective of carrying out the complete rehabilitation and refurbishment of the current Hotel Princess de Estepona, which was built in the year 2000 and acquired by Ikos Resorts for 150 million euros. This has been the greatest investment that the Costa del Sol has seen in the latest years and one of the most important in Spain in 2018.

The resort will have seven buildings set up in the shape of a U. Five of them will be exclusively dedicated to rooms, while the two left will also include services and common areas. These buildings will circle around the central part of the hotel, where the pools and service modules will be.

The resort’s current refurbishment will be possible thanks to a total investment of 75 million euros provided by the hotel group, of which 55 million will be destined to the TBA led by ACCIONA and integrated by SANDO as one of the main partners in the project, which will be executed in about 15 months’ time. As part of their action plan, they will extend the seven buildings that currently exist, and refurbish the exterior gardens, as well as the sports plot. Moreover, the project will also enlarge the rooms to tailor them to the standards of a five-star resort, while two new buildings will be built to hold a restaurant, spa and indoor pool.

Outdoors, amongst other works which will take place, new terraces and slabs will be built, with new connecting canopies and 11 pools surrounded by local vegetation which will reach a total water film of 4,000 m2.

Located at the beachfront, the new Ikos Andalusia hotel will have 411 rooms and suites which will be distributed in seven buildings. The resort, which is expected to open in May 2020, will have seven restaurants, leading sports facilities, a theatre, swimming pools – both outdoors and indoors – and a spa. In total, the works will cover a constructed area of approximately 33,000 m2.

Ikos Andalusia will be the company’s fifth resort and the first located in the Iberian Peninsula. Ikos Resorts currently has four other resorts: Ikos Dassia (Corfu), Ikos Aria (to open in May 2019 in the island of Cos), Ikos Oceania and Ikos Olivia. These last two, located in the Halkidiki Peninsula, have been voted as the best luxury all-inclusive hotels in the world according to Trip Advisor Traveller’s Choice Awards in 2019, for the second consecutive year.

These new works will add up to the already extensive list of references that ACCIONA Construcción has in the hotel sector. Amongst other, this includes the hotel La Plantación, in Tenerife, which occupies a surface of 30,000 m2 and includes 165 rooms, gardens, pool and common areas; as well as the hotel Acapulco of the hotel chain Sheraton, in Mexico, with 20,700 m2 and 235 rooms.

In addition, ACCIONA Construcción has refurbished renown establishments such as the Palace hotel in Madrid, where it carried out the complete restoration of the building, including the reception, meeting rooms, common areas and restaurants; or the Parador la Muralla in Ceuta, turning suites into vaults of the old Artillery Parque, over the Royal Walls.

In its more than 40 years of experience, SANDO has developed dozens of singular buildings both in and outside of Spain. The company is currently executing the largest commercial and leisure centre in the South of Europe, Intu Costa del Sol; the rehabilitation of the building in El Olivillo for the University of Cadiz, the hotel Playa Bonita in Benalmádena; the extension of the Archaeological Museum of the Community of Madrid in Alcala de Henares; the new studios for Radio Televisión Española in Madrid or the Sants Station in Barcelona, amongst many others. Moreover, the company has carried out other hotel projects such as the Gran Hotel Beatriz in Fuengirola, the hotel Vía Sevilla in the Aljarafe Center or the hotel Sevilla Palmera.
