The general director of BSI for Spain, Portugal and France, Marcio Viegas, awarded the certificates to Sando this morning
Sando is the first large companies in the Spanish construction sector to establish a certified workplace health and safety system according to the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 norm by the British Standard Institution (BSI). This entity is the holder of the global copyrights to International Specifications. In recent years it has become a reference for organisation will to stand out in the area of Workplace Health and Safety.
The official presentation of the certificates took place this morning in Sando’s Madrid offices. The general director of BSI for Spain, Portugal and France, Marcio Viegas, personally awarded the certificates to Luis Sánchez Manzano, vice-president and managing director of Sando.
The BSI certification is given exclusively to those entities whose management system has been audited and certified by the British Standard Institution, meeting the requirements of the established norms.
The compliance and certification of the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 norms signifies a further step taken by the companies of the Sando group in their commitment to workplace risk prevention and the safety and quality of life of their professionals. It also represents a qualitative advantage over the principal companies of the sector, given that it has been the first to obtain certification from the creator of the standard itself.
The multinational group Sando also meets workplace risk prevention standards and has established a specific policy of actions and research into this problematic area, bringing real solutions to the sector.
In recognition of this philosophy, on March 14th Sando was honoured with the Prever Award 2008, given by the General Board of Industrial Relations and Work Sciences in recognition of its efforts in the area of Workplace Risk Prevention. Sando is the only institution in the construction sector to be awarded in this edition of the Prever Awards.
Additionally, in February, Sando organised the First National Construction Health and Safety Conference, a forum of experts from around the country who presented the results of their research into Workplace Risk Prevention sponsored by the Sando Fundación during 2008. The most significant innovations in this field were debated during this event.
Thanks to the leadership and trajectory of the Sando group, the company has established itself as a market leader, recognised with the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 certification from BSI. The dedication of Sando in this area is demonstrated by the continuous decent in workplace accidents, down 23% in 2008 and all of a minor nature. Sando is 32.4% below the official industry index and 71.26% below the index for serious accidents.
