The bridge, whose structure has been preserved since the 19th Century, has supported the weight of 12 lorries each weighing 40 tons
The viaduct over the Boquilla ravine in Mogente (Valencia), which is part of the stretch linking this locality with Alcudia de Crespins, has passed the load testing carried out this afternoon with flying colours. The structure, 45 metres in length, will form part of the High speed train line between Madrid, Castilla La Mancha, the Valencian Community and Adif in the region of Murcia, which Sando is constructing through UTE (Temporary Union of Companies) within the La Encina-Xátiva Tie.
The load testing, which is performed in order to test the correct construction of the viaduct, was carried out using 12 lorries each weighing 40 tons, in two stages. In the first stage, the vehicles were placed in different areas on the viaduct, and afterwards a dynamic load test was performed while the vehicles were in motion.
Both tests were satisfactory, which proves that the viaduct responds adequately to different load types, both static and in motion.
One of the characteristics which gives this infrastructure its emblematic appearance, is the fact that they have kept the masonry buttresses on the viaduct which was constructed at the end of the 19th century, for the train line which will now link Valencia with Madrid.
This decision allowed the bridge to be integrated with the surrounding countryside, thus avoiding negative environmental impact which the building of new infrastructure would have caused.
The viaduct over the Boquilla ravine is 45 metres long in total, with a single 13 metre wide slab, made of a 3 metre wide pre-stressed concrete encasing.
Once the load testing has been done, the next stage involves assembly of the Railway track, overhead power cables and Signalling of the stretch between Mogente and Alcudia de Crespins.
