This week, Sando Construcción started work on the BUS-VAO lane access to Malaga on the Guadalhorce motorway (A-357). A project of the Consejería de Fomento, Articulación del Territorio y Vivienda de la Junta de Andalucía (Ministry of Development, Territorial Planning and Housing of the Andalusian Regional Government) with an investment of 8.5 million euros.
As indicated by the Regional Ministry itself, the works on the BUS-VAO lane accessing Malaga on the A-357 will allow the creation of a third lane for buses and high-occupancy vehicles in the direction of the capital.
This sustainable action aims to encourage public transport and reduce traffic jams at one of the busiest points in the city. Access to Malaga via the Guadalhorce motorway reaches 74,000 vehicles per day.
Implementation of the BUS-VAO lane
The works to be carried out by Sando Construcción, will allow for building a BUS-VAO platform covering 2.3 kilometres, specifically between the roundabout at the access to the Hospital Clínico and the University to its extension at the entrance to the city before the intersection with Avenida Juan XXIII.
The implementation of the BUS-VAO lane to widen a third lane will be carried out mainly inwards, occupying the median. The project also envisages increasing the overpass over the roundabout next to Doctor Manuel Domínguez and María Zambrano Avenues, occupying the space between carriageways, as will be done with the three overpasses at the junction with the MA-20.
Finally, in the overpass over Calle Almogía, Sando Construcción will extend one side of the overpass by means of a new deck connected to the cantilever of the existing one.
To ensure that the planned works have the least possible impact on traffic, Sando Construcción will carry out most of the work at night. In addition, it will be in constant communication with Malaga City Council, the Andalusian Regional Government, and the Directorate General for Traffic to coordinate the work.
By building the BUS-VAO lane, Sando Construcción contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13, Climate Action.
