Sando Construcción has begun work on the remodelling of the Short Stay Mental Health Unit at the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital. A space of 1,000 square metres with 14 rooms for single or double use, with an investment of 1.4 million euros by the Regional Government of Andalucía.
According to the Regional Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, this unit, located on the first floor of the General Hospital, attends more than 900 patients a year, who are admitted urgently and correspond to outbreaks or periods of exacerbation of the disease they suffer from, staying an average of ten days.
The work being carried out by Sando Construcción will provide these patients with refurbished spaces that will improve the quality of care, safety and humanisation. A group therapy room and 10 doctors’ surgeries will be added among the refurbishments so patients can continue their treatment more comfortably without leaving the ward. In addition, an outdoor patio will be created with direct and unique access from the consultation area, where patients can enjoy a supervised and safe environment in contact with nature.
A project that legitimises its expertise in hospital projects
This work complements other projects carried out at the Virgen del Rocío Hospital, such as the la construction of a walkway connecting the four hospitals that make up the Hospital campus (General, Traumatology and Rehabilitation, Children’s and Women’s Hospitals), the refurbishment of the ICU at the General Hospital, and the refurbishment of the operating theatres at the Children’s Hospital.
These works are part of Sando Construcción’s line of specialisation in construction and equipment, under which it has executed various projects such as the extension of the Hospitén Centre in Estepona, the construction of the new laboratories at the Carlos III Health Institute in Madrid, the remodelling of the Puerta del Mar University Hospital in Cádiz, the remodelling of the operating theatres at the Puerto Real University Hospital, and the extension works at the Quirón Hospital in Málaga, among others, along with other actions for repairing, rehabilitating and conserving buildings in the different health centres within the framework contracts with the provincial purchasing centres in Andalusia.
