The Sando foundation has renewed its commitment to Canarian wrestling, one of the most representative sports of the Canary Islands, by supporting the Los Campitos Wrestling Club for another year this season.
Club Deportivo de Lucha Los Campitos is one of the few teams with teams in all categories, including women’s, and is the only one in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
As a result of the grassroots sports project they have been developing for years, the club’s U9s won the Cabildo de Tenerife league last season. They also won the title of individual champions with the Caja Canarias Foundation sash. In addition, the U15s of Los Campitos Wrestling Club won the Cajasiete Cup.
Integration in Canarian Wrestling
Canarian wrestling is deeply rooted in the islands’ identity and is considered part of their ethnographic heritage. It is also a way to create community and social links. In their commitment to diversity, they began their commitment to women’s sports years ago, and this past season, they have gone a step further down that road.
They have incorporated a group of Senegalese immigrants who are integrating into Canarian traditions through the struggle with educators, monitors, and physical trainers—a social challenge that is in line with the club’s history of solidarity and openness.
The Sando Foundation is again collaborating with this project, which, in addition to combining the values of culture, tradition, and sport, is committed to diversity and community integration.
