The extension of the social and welfare dining-room and alterations to the main entrance and basements will allow more people to attend as a result of increasing basic requirements such as toilet facilities and meals
This morning, the construction company, Sando, has handed over the newly refurbished facilities at the municipal Centre in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The ceremony was presided over by the local Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez Esparza, and by the Government sub-delegate, Guillermo Díaz Guerra. The budget for this work was 1.13 million euros as part of various projects included in the government’s second Plan E.
Remodelling primarily centred on excavating the old shower facilities and public laundry area which were located in the interior patio of the building, thus allowing for the creation of an area in the open-air so as those wishing to eat in the dining-room will be able to wait their turn there, rather than having to wait in the street as before. With regard to these alterations, the entrance to the building has been widened and special attention has been paid to access areas for handicapped people.
On the other hand, the existing dining-room has been refurbished and extended which has increased dining capacity by 50%, making use of the basement area which was previously used partially as a storeroom, and where an electricity generating system has also been installed with sufficient power to supply electricity to all the new installations and to the various rooms in the building.
Also, in the second basement a water reserve tank has been constructed from where water can be provided in the event of fire, and it is located next to the installation-room.
The project has been carried out with the aim of creating an all-encompassing Centre where people will feel welcome and which provides the basic requirements of toilet facilities and meals.
