The company will use specialised laser scanners and software to catalogue the city
In the coming months, Sando Construcciones will be taking three dimensional images of the streets of Sevilla in order to create a 3D inventory, identifying and cataloguing the structure of half of the city.
This initiative is part of the Sevilla Roadway project adjudicated to Sando in May. Specifically, it is a Services contract for the inventory, inspection, maintenance and repair of the public thoroughfares and spaces of Sector I in Sevilla.
During several months a mobile unit will roam the streets of Sevilla with 360º digital cameras, three laser scanners, positioning systems and data collection equipment.
The unit will have sic integrated digital cameras, five of which are azimuthal (azimuthal angle) and one in a zenithal position able to capture fifteen images per second creating a panoramic image of the urban environment.
Three high resolution Lidar laser scanners installed on the sides and rear of the vehicle will provide a points cloud of figures from a distance of up to 40 meters.
The vehicle positioning systems will consist of three components: a double frequency GNSS positioning system, a high precision Inertial System (IMU) permitting the calculation of position in areas where GNSS signal strength is poor (Tunnels, buildings, etc) and odometers or speed detectors.
Finally, the collected data will be processed using a software system able to capture images continuously and correlate them with topographical data. Once all the data has been processed, general and detailed views of the city can be generated, as well as highly precise inventories and reports. The other concessionary, cataloguing Sector II, will use the same technology in order to have a complete three-dimensional inventory of the entire city.
This is a project of the Technical Services Department of Sando Construcciones, equipped with one of the most advanced topographical departments in the sector. The department initiated an R&D+I project in April also based on the use of laser technology but with applications in civil construction projects. Sando has extensive experience in roadway maintenance, providing this service for the Municipality of Sevilla since 1995.
