The Hurar Investment Group have entrusted the restoration of two historic buildings to the Malaga firm with a budget of approximately four million euros.
The firm, Sando Construcciones, has been awarded the contract to carry out the restoration project of two buildings, one of which was built in the 18th century and the other in the 19th century. Both buildings are located in Plaza de la Marina, Malaga. The buildings will be turned into a four star hotel comprising 60 bedrooms belonging to the Hurar Investment Group.
The new project will have a total built area of more than 3,400 square metres which are currently distributed between adjoining buildings: number 7, Plaza de la Marina; numbers 2 and 4, Vendeja Street; and number 3, Trinidad Grund Street.
The project is quite unusual, given that it will be built on top of an 18th century building. The central patio will be preserved and mural paintings recovered from the façade of the building in Trinidad Grund Street. The front façade of the 19th century building will also be preserved.
Due to the historic nature of these buildings, a special project will need to be developed to include the erection of retainer screens around the entire perimeter and deep foundations using micro-piles. The majority of the structure will be built on site using reinforced concrete.
Restoration of the facades will involve some adaptation in order to comply with current building regulations, whilst the new façade will be constructed using a combination of external rendering with Juliet balconies adjoining the bedrooms.
The project for the new hotel will comply with the usual parameters for Sustainable construction which Sando always apply to their work. The building will have solar panels installed on the roof of a pergola which will be on top of the roof itself to obtain electricity.
The project involves building a lower ground floor and four floors above where the hotel bedrooms will be housed. At roof-top level there will be a coffee bar and restaurant, gardens and swimming-pool. The construction budget comes to approximately four million euros.
