Luis Sánchez Manzano has inaugurated the conference on Sustainable Development of Natural Resources in Andalucia
This morning, the vice-president and managing director of Sando, Mr. Luis Sánchez Manzano, inaugurated the conference on the sustainable operation and development of mines and mineral resources, organised by the El Correo de Andalucía. During his speech, he noted the significant role played by private companies: “Sustainability is more than an idea, it’s a commitment we are all making”.
The conference, entitled “Sustainable development of natural resources in Andalucia”, was also attended by the vice-councillor for Economy, Science and Innovation of the Junta of Andalucia, Mr. Luis Nieto Ballesteros, and the Councillor for the Environment, Mr. José Juan Díaz Trillo, at the closure.
The first round table dealt with the Ordinance Plan for Mineral Resources in Andalucia (PORMIAN), outlining the principal aspects of the regulation of the mining sector and establishing a regulatory framework. Representatives of the Autonomous Community and business associations participated in the debate.
Later, Mr. Manuel Boza, Sando’s Director of Materials and Supplies, provided a detailed description of the procedures followed for the restoration of the La Cabaña mine in Seville or the Mijas quarry in Malaga, which are a model for the sector.
In La Cabaña, Sando not only extracted raw materials for construction, it also developed a complete restoration process, refilling the exploited areas with previously treated and inert material and using laser levelling technology to leave the site ready and apt for agricultural use.
Finally, the closing ceremony was presided over by the president of Sando, Mr. José Luis Sánchez Dominguez, and the Councillor for the Environment, Mr. José Juan Díaz Trillo. Mr. Sánchez Domínguez expressed his pride in Sando’s reforestation of sites its mining operations and highlighted the benefits this type of management provides the community: “We generate employment and wealth, and then we return to the community regenerated and productive land”.
