The Sando Fundación, special sponsor of the ninth National Congress on the Environment (CONAMA), held a series of conferences this morning related to sustainable business development, taking some of Sando’s initiatives as examples.
The Iberian Lynx was the subject of the first conference. Mr. Luis Sánchez-Pobre, Regional Director of the south region of Althenia, Sando’s company specialised in environmental initiatives, presented an overview of the situation of the Lynx in Spain.
Taking the different studies on this endangered species as a starting point, Mr. Sánchez-Pobre explained the initiatives the company has undertaken to promote the survival of the Iberian Lynx, such as the Restoration Project for public mountain habitats in the province of Cordoba” or the “Remodelling of Infrastructures in La Granja Cinegética of Lugar Nuevo in Andujar, Jaén”.
The second conference was about the water reuse and recycling in the tunnelling machine used by Sando in the Buñol-Siete Aguas section of the Valencia AVE line. Mr. José Carlos Rupérez, Regional Director of the Centre region of Althenia, explained the different ways in which water resources are used in the construction of Tunnels such as La Cabrera, the longest tunnels in the Madrid-Valencia AVE line.
The conference finished with a talk about the restoration of a quarry. This presentation focussed on both the operational side and the legal issues involved in these projects. Mr. Juan Carlos Galán, managing director of the Materials and Supplies Division of Sando in Western Andalucia and Mr. Antonio Castillo, Sando’s legal advisor, explained how mineral resources can be exploited while recycling and regenerating the natural environment.
The Sando Fundación is a non-profit organisation created in 2006 with the dual role to consolidate and manage Sando’s activities in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility. The organisation is dedicated to serving society, identifying principal needs and seeking ways to improve the well-being of the general public, the environment and encourage cultural and R&D+I activities.
