The Sando Fundación collaborates again this year in the Football 7-a-side Tournament organised by the Regional University Hospital of Malaga, the Biomedical Research Institute of Malaga and the Nanomedicine Platform (IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND). A meeting held between 31 May and 1 June 2024 at the University of Malaga with the aim of raising funds for biomedical research.
Sixteen teams from different organisations, such as associations, companies and health professionals, participated in the tournament. In total, more than 250 volunteer footballers have been involved in this charity cause.
The Sando Fundación played an active role in the tournament with our own team, and we came in 5th place. An initiative aligned with the company’s social responsibility, through which it seeks to promote sporting experience and solidarity among employees.
Also participating in the event was the team from the Málaga CF Ex-Football Players’ Association, who played a friendly match against the National Police Force, the tournament winners. The final was followed by the presentation of trophies to the winners, which was attended by the scientific director of IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND, Francisco J. Tinahones, along with the managing director of the Institute, José Miguel Guzmán, the Economic, Administrative and General Services director of the Regional University Hospital of Málaga, Paula Corrales, and the deputy vice-rector of Strategic Projects, Institutional Relations and University Welfare of the UMA, Consolación Pineda.
The Instituto de Investigación Biomédica de Málaga y Plataforma en Nanomedicina (IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND) is an institute accredited in Spain for health research by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. It is a multidisciplinary research space in which university and health scientists participate in implementing solutions that improve the health of citizens and contribute to the social and economic development of the province of Malaga.
The collaboration with the BIONAND Platform responds to the Sando Fundación’s commitment to innovation within its Sustainability strategy. By participating in this initiative, the foundation shows its support for biomedical research in the city while promoting sporting activity, both of which are in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 3: ‘Health and well-being’.
