The courses will expand the content of the visits and promote the environment and history of the Caminito del Rey (King’s Trail).
The new management agency of Caminito del Rey, formed by the Sando-Salzillo-Mundo Management Temporary Joint Venture, has begun a complete training plan for the guides. This initiative is part of the project to guarantee, complete and improve the information given to visitors, not only about the Caminito but also about the surrounding area. It also contributes to the promotion of the project’s candidature to UNESCO.
The temporary joint venture has designed an academic programme led by experts such as María José Sánchez Rodríguez, PhD in Art History and director of the Municipal Museum of Alora, and Pedro Cantalejo Duarte, coordinator of the Natural and Historical Heritage of the Gualdalteba Region.
It will also feature the knowledge of experts in the infrastructure itself, such as Luis Machuca Santa-Cruz, PhD in architecture, editor and director of the rehabilitation project of the current Caminito del Rey, who will give his view on the construction and how this work, carried out by Sando, has won countless national and international awards.
Unique environment
The training will occur in places linked to the Caminito del Rey, such as the Villa de Ardales Cultural Centre, the Assembly Hall in Álora, or the most important historical sites, such as the Ardales Cave, the Necropolis of Las Aguilillas or the Cave Church of Bobastro.
The courses were organised with three conference days, ending on 7 February. The first of these was dedicated to the Paraje los Gaitanes and the reservoirs, the landscape and the territorial value of the area surrounding the Caminito del Rey. The geological formation process of the canyons of El Chorro, the flora and fauna of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, and the techniques for the necessary unification of the customer service process of the Caminito del Rey were explained during the class. The day ended with a cultural tour of the historic quarter of Ardales.
