The Minister for Public Works inaugurated a day’s event entitled “The construction Sector, recovery challenges ahead” to celebrate Sando´s 40th Anniversary
The Minister for Public Works, Ana Pastor, speaking at the inauguration of the day’s event entitled "The construction sector, recovery challenges ahead”, emphasized the importance of social benefits and territorial and financial cohesion that the High-Speed Railway brings to the country.
The Minister for Public Works emphasized the amount of money that has been invested by the Public Works Group, (Grupo Fomento), for the entire legislature, and which came to 35,000 million euros. Also there, was the Chairman of the CEOE, Juan Rosell and the Chairman of Sando, José Luis Sánchez Domínguez, both of whom pointed out the situation that the construction sector has been through.
“If Sando has managed to reach their 40th Anniversary, it has been due to their philosophy of constant hard work on a day-to-day basis and the confidence the public authorities have put in the company, as is evidenced by the Ministry for Public Works", stated the Chairman of Sando. Also, Juan Rosell, said that Sando is a good example of how a company has managed to overcome difficulties, and has fought to continue through times of economic change in the country, even though the company has been fully aware of how hard it is to achieve the same levels of growth as was known in previous times.
Afterwards, a round-table debate was held entitled “Challenges in the construction sector”, during the discussion, Juan Lazcano, Chairman of the CNC, campaigned to make the most of conservation and maintenance of existing infrastructure and to “adapt the infrastructure we already have to new requirements”. When it was the turn of Jaime Lamo de Espinosa, Chairman of Anci, to speak, he praised the Ministry for Public Works for their infrastructure management during the last few years and called for an increase in public investment.
The Director of The Economist, Amador G. Ayora, congratulated Sando on their 40th Anniversary and emphasized that the construction sector has, after the crisis, a huge task ahead, although the industry will need to come up with new ideas. After the round-table debate, Juan José Morodo, the Deputy Director of Cinco Días, brought up the situation of young people and aspirations for the future of the industry. The debate was chaired by Carlos Morán, the daily newspaper Expansión´s Infrastructure reporter.
The day´s event came to an end with a few words spoken by Luis Sánchez Manzano, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Sando, and Antonio Garamendi, Vice-Chairman of the CEOE and Chairman of Cepyme.
Sánchez Manzano, highlighted the role of business organizations and the continuous need for reinvention. “We are hoping for an increase, both with regard to public tenders as well as private investment in the next few years”.
And lastly, he stated how important the role of small and medium size businesses in the country is, generating over 75% employment in the country and the magnificent work of family companies, like Sando.
