Adequacy of the tunnels of La Cerradura, Despeñaperros, Cantera, La Miel and Santa Lucía
Project to adapt the tunnels of La Cerradura, Despeñaperros, Cantera, La Miel and Santa Lucía to Royal Decree 635/2006. Province of Jaén. EU-funded recovery, transformation and resilience plan Next Generation E.U.
The purpose of this project is to adapt the tunnels of La Cerradura, Despeñaperros, Cantera, La Miel and Santa Lucía to the requirements established in Royal Decree 635/2006, depending on the tunnel length and the tunnel’s D.M.I., to guarantee minimum safety conditions and requirements for tunnel users in tunnels on the State Road Network These requirements are implemented by supplementing existing safety features and will improve safety measures in the A-44 and A-4 motorway tunnels.
Conacon Sando will carry out conservation and refurbishment work on the facilities, such as the signalling of exits and emergency equipment; emergency lighting; electricity supply; the adaptation of radio systems for emergencies; a closed circuit T.V.; environmental quality sensors; communications; installation of luminous signalling and beaconing. Hydro blasting is another method to improve the pavement’s C.R.T. (Coefficient of Transverse Friction) through an innovative high-pressure water system.
The project to upgrade the tunnels of La Cerradura, Despeñaperros, Cantera, La Miel and Santa Lucía is located on the Sierra Nevada – Costa Tropical A-44 dual carriageway, which links Bailén (Jaén) with La Gorgoracha (Granada), on the section between the municipality of Campillo de Arenas and the town of La Cerradura, and the other, in the Cantera and Despeñaperros tunnels, located on the A-4 southern motorway (formerly the Andalusia motorway), which links the south with the centre of the Iberian peninsula. Specifically in the section between the municipalities of Santa Elena (Jaén) and Venta de Cárdenas (Ciudad Real).
