The work on the Indira Gandhi Primary School consists of constructing a compact C4-type building(four classrooms for each Infant and Primary level) with a capacity for 900 pupils. The building covers 5,000 square metres and is built on a 13,000 square metre plot. Among the CEIP Indira Gandhi facilities are 36 and eight small group classrooms: 12 infant education classrooms with toilets, their corresponding outdoor classrooms, and 24 primary education classrooms. All these rooms are divided into two floors: the ground floor houses the infant education level, and the first floor houses the primary education level.
The building of the CEIP Indira Gandhi also includes the creation of common areas: a library, multipurpose rooms, a gymnasium with changing rooms, a music room, a dining room with office, toilets and changing rooms. As well as the creation of an administration area with: a teachers’ room, management offices, a head of studies, a room for the AMPA, a secretary’s office with an archive, a caretaker’s office and a reprographics room, and a storage room, a cleaning room and facilities rooms.
Outside are sports courts, an orchard, a garden area, car parks and play areas with covered porches for infants and primary school children.
Architecture of the CEIP Indira Gandhi
The result is a volume that adapts generously to the existing topography and is structured in volume and the differentiation of uses. In terms of design, it uses white concrete brick. This brick, laid with bone, generates a clean, warm texture accompanying the large horizontal bands that define the volumes with its pattern.
In executing this project, Sando is placing its expertise in sustainable construction and educational infrastructures at the service of the Department of Education of the Regional Government of Andalusia and the residents and families of Las Lagunas de Mijas.
