Contracting authority: University of Seville

This project consists of adapting the University Building of Technological Spaces to the new Andalusia Tech Centre for the new Andalusia Tech Centre Higher Polytechnic School (CATEPS) in the Cartuja Technology Park in Seville. The new building of the Centro Andalucía Tech Escuela Politécnica Superior (CATEPS) has a total built surface area of 26,420 square metres, of which 9,807 square metres are below ground level, which is distributed in a set of different spaces dedicated to both research and common services.

In this way, the building has three large groups of functional spaces: the 1,600 square metre heavy-load laboratory building, the general services building, and a group of four blocks perpendicular to the previous ones and arranged in flight (overhanging the lower ones) above them. These blocks contain the departmental headquarters, light-duty laboratories, and two basement floors for parking and medium-duty laboratories.

The general services building is divided into different areas to ensure maximum operability of the spaces and comfort for students, workers and teachers. Thus, on the ground floor are located the rooms with the most direct relationship with the visitors’ entrance (hall, assembly hall, concierge’s office, secretary’s office or reprographics) and the study room, with its access that allows its independent use throughout the day. The first floor, which connects the building’s different volumes and common areas, is almost entirely devoted to the library. Finally, the management, administration, student offices, and other public spaces on the first floor, such as the cafeteria, dining room, and kitchen complex.

Among the work carried out by Sando in this project for the new Andalusia Tech Centre Higher Polytechnic School (CATEPS) are the demolition of floors and partition walls to gain access to the basements and the partitioning of the different departments As well as executing coatings, waterproofing, metal and concrete structures, carpentry and installations, among other tasks In performing the works, Sando integrates the latest technology and top-quality materials under sustainability and efficiency criteria, giving the space an avant-garde character to materialise it as an emblem of science and technology.
