Contracting authority: Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation
The project to improve the Cajil weir facilities includes actions to make the weir fully functional, following its wear and tear over the years since its construction. This makes operation and maintenance easier
Through Sando Agua’s actions, supply is provided to the houses in the town of Albolote, to the offices of the dam, and the village of Canales independently of the Cañada Anita intake system.
This way, the conduction problem through the reservoir basin is solved, and the service is independent of the River Basin Authority’s competences.
The main actions carried out in the project to improve the Cajil weir facilities consist of: the construction of the new access to the Cajil System and the breakwater wall to protect the slope on the left bank of the riverbed and the renovation of the regulation floodgates of the diversion channel.
Other actions are also being carried out, such as the general clearing of the area, the placement of a level strip in the canal, the repair of the sluice gate to the river and the replacement of the sluice gate drive platform cover.
About the Cajil System
The function of the Cajil System is to divert the floods of the river Cubillas before entering the reservoir of the same name towards the river Colomera (a tributary of the river Cubillas). This diversion is carried out using a tunnel to prevent the crests of the floodwaters and their runoff from directly impacting the Cubillas reservoir, consequently causing it to become progressively silted up.
The system consists of a diversion dam, the so-called Cajil weir, two spillways and two 5×3 metre wall gates located in a section of the canal that ends at the entrance to the diversion tunnel.
