Sando has built the new logistics facilities for Mayoral Moda Infantil in the Intelhorce industrial estate in Malaga. The warehouse has a surface area of 15,600 square metres and a façade height of 20 metres.
The project, by the renowned architect Rafael Urquiza, includes a unique design inspired by the textile industry, which is particularly represented in the 13,500 square metre exterior façade: made of zinc sheeting lacquered on both sides, fretted and micro-perforated, assembled as arches projected inwards, in the manner of ‘flounces’.
The metal structure of the hall was made of 1,900 tonnes of steel in tubular sections, arranged in the form of three-dimensional trusses, for the assembly of which 160-tonne mobile cranes with a boom height of over 90 metres were used.
The interior of the warehouse has a clear height of 17 metres and 2,700 square metres of mezzanine, a 14.5-metre spiral staircase for access to the roof. As well as an interior façade of 9,000 square metres made of polycarbonate. For its part, in the 800 square metre exterior surroundings of the warehouse, exterior gardens have been laid and 3,500 square metres of prefabricated cobblestones have been laid on pavements.
In the execution of this project, the BIM methodology was integrated as the backbone of the planning and monitoring of the execution, centralising all the information and progress in the model, to allow all those involved to have better visibility and better control of the resources and the work.
Legitimised specialisation in logistics infrastructure
This new industrial building is in addition to the refurbishment of the order centre that was also executed by Sando Construcción in 2018, a project that won several awards such as: the special mention in the 2020 Awards of the Malaga College of Architects or the nomination for the 2019 Mies van der Rohe awards.
In this way, the new warehouse completes the logistics facilities of Mayoral Moda Infantil in Malaga, a project in which Sando Construcción legitimises its high level of experience and specialisation in industrial and logistics infrastructures.
