The Melonares Dam, classified as a large dam, is located on the river Viar and floods a strip of 16 km longitudinally along the course of the river, covering 14.57 km² The gravity arch of the Melonares Dam is 50.25 m high, made of vibrated concrete, and has a capacity of 180 hm³ and 1,300 ha of surface area, with an accompanying dyke of approximately 1,300 m in length and two weirs at the tail of the reservoir made of compacted concrete. A total of 83,617 m³ of concrete was used for its execution.
