Remodelling of the Gran Vía Metro station in Madrid
Extension, connection and accessibility works at Gran Vía Metro station.
Sando has carried out the remodelling works at the Gran Vía metro station in Madrid. This action consists of three projects. Firstly, the extension of the underground structure, then the consolidation and structural stabilisation works given the serious danger of collapse, and, finally, the development of Calle Montera between Gran Vía, the gardens and Calle Caballero de Gracia.
An intervention in which Metro de Madrid, the Directorate General of Infrastructures of the Community of Madrid and Adif, took part. It significantly extends, improves accessibility, and connects the Puerta del Sol axis (with Metro and Cercanías-Renfe) and Gran Vía. The works carried out by Sando consisted of a complete extension of the existing station. It has a vertical connecting shaft at its different passage levels. On the first level, the lobby areas have been increased from 900 to 2,000 square metres.
On a second level, a museum has been set up with the archaeological remains found during the excavation and extension of the station. Finally, on a third level, it connects with line 5 and an access gallery linking the Gran Vía Metro station with the Renfe Cercanías Sol station. In addition, Sando has redeveloped the surrounding areas.
Use of BIM The work carried out by Sando for the remodelling of the Gran Vía metro station in Madrid is equivalent to an 8-storey underground building wedged between the buildings on the sides of Calle Montera. . To carry it out, the construction company has used BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology, thus efficiently adapting the project to reality and with excellent safety and accuracy.
