Towers of Hercules
Construction of the Torres de Hércules office building, surface car park and urban development in the Guadalcorte industrial estate, Palmones de Los Barrios.
The construction of the Towers of Hercules covers a total built-up area of 19,600 square metres and an outdoor car park with 200 parking spaces. It is in the Parque Empresarial y Tecnológico Las Marismas del Rio Palmones, in the town of Los Barrios, in Cadiz.
The main structure consists of two cylindrical towers, 25 metres in diameter and 20 storeys high, linked by a crystalline prism that allows communication between them and amplifies sustainability and energy savings.
This representative concrete lattice completely envelops it, on which the legend “Non-Plus Ultra” can be read as a hieroglyphic. This legend symbolises the strength and potential of the complex, referring to the legendary Pillars of Hercules, present in the Spanish coat of arms, which rose and announced to sailors the end of the sea and the beginning of the unknown.
In addition, this lattice design with a self-climbing formwork system optimises the lighting inside the offices with natural light, saving energy and acting as a bioclimatic screen, i.e. providing natural protection against excessive sunlight from the glass enclosure.
Due to its innovative design, the Torres de Hércules has become an emblematic building. They were, until 2012, the two tallest cylindrical buildings in Andalusia, with 129 metres in height and 25 floors The design allows a panoramic view of the Bay of Algeciras, the Rock of Gibraltar and the Serranía.
