Tunnels for emergency exits at Sants-Sagrera Station
Construction project for the urban development associated with the north end of Sants Station (Barcelona) and emergency exits to the surrounding area
The work on the emergency exit tunnels at Sants-Sagrera Station is divided into three actions: the construction of three 9-metre inner diameter shafts to be used as evacuation exits from the High-Speed Line tunnel, the redevelopment of the affected area and the integration of the four emergency exits. The three boreholes have a 41, 40, and 49 metres depth, respectively The construction work on the tunnels for the emergency exits at Sants-Sagrera Station on Carrer Urgel, Carrer Nàpoles and Carrer Independència is a unique project.
The project envisaged the use of a V.S.M. machine. (Vertical Shaft Machine) to execute vertical shafts, a technology that has rarely been used in the country. To guarantee the safety of neighbouring buildings, Sando Construcción developed a construction solution called SALIEMELAV, which was designed by the company’s R&D&i department and certified as a technological innovation. Approximately 120,000 m3 of land and 220,000 m3 of embankment will be cleared.
