The work on the emergency exit tunnels at Sants-Sagrera Station is divided into three actions: the construction of three 9-metre inner diameter shafts to be used as evacuation exits from the High-Speed Line tunnel, the redevelopment of the affected area and the integration of the four emergency exits. The project envisaged the use of a V.S.M. machine. (Vertical Shaft Machine) to execute vertical shafts, a technology that has rarely been used in the country. To guarantee the safety of neighbouring buildings, Sando Construcción developed a construction solution called SALIEMELAV, which was designed by the company’s R&D&i department and certified as a technological innovation. Approximately 120,000 m3 of land and 220,000 m3 of embankment will be cleared.
