The refurbishment of Avenida Francisco Montenegro is a major project comprising the complete remodelling of the entire area. The work on Avenida Francisco Montenegro includes the installation of a new drainage and supply network and replacing the existing road surface. In addition, a parking strip was created adjacent to the traffic lane, with pavements parallel to the direction of travel of vehicles, and a new parking area was built next to the Columbus monument.

Landscape regeneration

The Avenida Francisco Montenegro project aims to regenerate the left bank of the avenue in terms of landscaping by placing tree surrounds on the pavements, new landscaped areas, vegetation, children’s play areas and optimising accessibility by creating a new pavement.

Two further actions complement the refurbishment. On the one hand, installing a new lighting network replacing the sodium vapour luminaires with LEDs to improve efficiency and save energy. And finally, the repair of a pedestrian path with a cycle lane and wooden footbridges that will be illuminated with signalling beacons.
